North Side Baptist Church VCB Summer 2008 Project
As the Lord would have it, the planned VCB project in
When they talked with Bob on the Thursday evening before the work week, it was mentioned that he had just been talking in a board meeting of needed work on a staff residence building. This work consisted of removing the existing exterior wooden siding from the walls, installing new replacement thermo pane windows, and installing new siding, and painting. They already had the windows on-site. It was an easy decision for them to say our group would be down there on the following Monday to begin the work.
So a quick change in plans was put into effect. This work site was actually a closer drive for our members, and those that wished could carpool and stay at home each night. The camp has facilities for motor home camping for those that wanted to do that. Three meals a day would also be provided to the workers.
So on Monday morning through Friday, June 16-20, about 25 VCB workers were present each day to use their building skills. With Jim’s and Wayne’s leadership, along with Les Shull, the Camp’s construction director, the job went smoothly from start to finish. As the following photos show, everyone was involved in some sort of fashion! The camp staff and local suppliers had trouble keeping the needed materials on hand as the project work continued on through the week. The old siding and windows were removed, new windows and new siding were installed, and the siding was painted by the end of the week.
NSBC youth have not attended this camp in the past, but they are scheduled to attend in future summers. It would seem that the NSBC VCB group may have found a “home” for future work projects. And as a sideline, the camp cabins are available for group retreats. There are tentative plans that the VCB and Sunday School classes will have a retreat for work and relaxation this fall.
