Happy Hats Prayer Squares
Happy Hats has a new exciting ministry of providing people who need our prayers with a prayer square that has been knitted or crocheted by our Happy Hatters. We also provide them to our policemen, firemen, and other service personnel who need our prayers on a regular basis. We have a card attached to each square that provides encouraging spiritual words. If you would like to make the squares, the pattern link is under our Pattern Links Tab. There are baskets of the prayer squares in our Outlet and the Church Office.
Below are the testimonies of those who have had the opportunity to provide someone a square and pray for them.
Testimony of Judy Myers (7/26/2016)
Please be patient with me while I share something that God did today but actually started a short time back. Our church has made approximately and sent out 25,000-30,000 hats from preemie size to adult size. Our extra special project has been to give red, white, and blue baby hats to the newborn or soon to be military babies who have a parent deployed. Happy Hats never dreamed after starting with one hospital we would see this project go from Weatherford, Texas to all over the world literally. So when a suggestion was made to begin making in addition to the hats Pocket Prayer Squares to give to those in the military who were being or were deployed to carry either under their helmets or in their pockets we were thrilled God was showing us another way to thank our military folks. Shirley McCrory and I met with the Chaplain at Ft. Hood asking their permission and by God’s grace they were excited to have us make some of them. Then Pastor Van and staff got excited about handing them out to Hospice or those in the hospital etc. Then after the Dallas tragedy it was decided we would make blue for the police, red for the fireman with a wonderful message on a card attached to it.
After 30 years I once again picked up my knitting needles and with many others began making squares with a cross in the middle. Shirley commented she was now carrying them in her purse in case she had the opportunity to give one out so I put some in my car which never made it into my tiny little purse until Monday at Happy Hats when I took a few in to show some of the ladies and having my purse there I stuck them in my purse (God was beginning to move). Today I was in Burleson at their Wal-Mart to purchase a trampoline for our great grandson for his birthday and asked if I could pay for it and they could pick it up first chance they got. In a sorta tacky voice the gentleman so no they had to pick it up today. I tried to explain even if I took it there was no one home to help me unload it. So I headed for the service dept. met with a lady who informed me in a tackier voice absolutely not they would only hold it for 1 hr. I explained they were at work…(she didn’t care but God did). Then the lady in back of her said you can order it on line at no shipping charge have it sent to our store and we will hold it for a week. Really?? What may I asked is the difference. So I walked away with the full intention of letting it go and ordering on line. Heading down the isle one of the employees was blocking my way, apologized and I assured him it was not a problem he then said “have a blessed day”. God again. I said well God bless you and he smile and said and may He bless you also. The Holy Spirit said give him a square. I got one from my purse hurried back explained it to him and gave it to him…you could tell he was really pleased.
Thanking God for lifting my spirits and letting go of the trampoline I walked passed two assistant managers and asked “are you managers” this great big dude said “sometimes”. We laughed. I explained to him about the trampoline but my full intention was to say which I did, it’s o.k. because of the guy I had just given the square to and how pleased I was they had folks like him working there but…here comes God...he said no ma’am we will take care of this, got my name, went to the head manager who paged me to come to the sporting good area and when I got there he had all ready talked with the NOW nice guy and all ready had the trampoline on a dolly. He is keeping it in his office until it can be picked up. I am on a roll now so I asked the manager if he was a Christian and he was adamant that he was, I handed him a prayer square explained it to him and he was speechless and thrilled. Now I am almost finished paying for the trampoline and God said psssttt look to your right…there is a uniformed policeman standing there, I told the check out guy I will be right back. I approached policeman R Hall and asked may I give you something and at first he had a question on his face so I showed him the square and began explaining it to him, he said I would love to have one WOULD YOU PRAY OVER ME? I said "now?" he said "yes." Let me just say those of you who know me know prayer is where my heart is. I laid hands on him and he on me, and we stood there allowing the Holy Spirit to speak through me with words of protection and honestly I truly don’t remember what I said. When I said in Jesus name amen we both were in tears, he grabbed me and hugged me and told me this square would be with him always. I told a friend this must be what it feels like to be on a drug high but instead I was on a Jesus high.
As I sat in my car I realized one thing for certain had I had a Judy temper tantrum over the trampoline I feel certain God would not have given me one blessing after another today. Not a single thing in this testimony was of my doing it was, as Alan and I like to call them, “a favor of the Lord” today. I give God all the praise and glory for allowing me to witness to others today with a simple 3X5 handmade square with a cross on it, but one thing I am certain about is I know all things work together for good when God is in it. God loves you and so do I.Love and prayers, Judy
